Commerce City has two different plumbing stories. Around Adams City and the old Derby core near 72nd Place and Monaco Street, many homes are 1940s to 1960s bungalows and ranches. North of 96th Avenue, in Reunion, Buffalo Run and Turnberry, the houses are 2000s and newer.
In the older homes, the call usually starts with a slow tub, a gurgling toilet, or sewage coming up a basement floor drain. The cause is often the original sewer lateral: roots working into a clay joint, a bellied section that holds water, or grease and debris caught behind either one. Stop running water, skip the chemical drain openers, and if several fixtures back up at once, the blockage is in the main line. Drain cleaning clears it, and we run a camera through the line to find the actual fault before anyone talks about digging. If the camera shows a broken or collapsed section, that is a sewer line repair conversation.
In the newer homes, the usual trouble is the water heater: rumbling from sediment on the lower element, a spent anode rod, a leaking relief valve, or a tank that has failed at the seam. If water is pooling at the base of the tank, shut the cold supply valve on top of the tank and turn off the gas or power to the unit. Then look at water heater repair options.
